The Hammers' bid to avoid relegation was dealt a significant blow on Monday night as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool. The loss didn't surprise an awful lot but nevertheless it has cost West Ham dear as they seek out sufficient points in order to escape the clutches of the drop.



It was a trip which was never really going to bare fruit for Gianfranco Zola and his West Ham team, but they travelled up to Merseyside regardless, mainly because it was compulsory in fairness, although they probably wish they hadn't bothered after falling to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield. West Ham started badly and went on from there.

The Hammers were rarely in the game, and the absence of Scott Parker in the centre of the park was apparent as West Ham never got a foothold in the match, while they rarely put two passes together if truth be told. It was all too predictable for Liverpool, who out fought, out muscled and simply outplayed the side nearer bottom than top.
