This Wednesday’s sporting action is all about football as we’ve got two Champions League matches being played as well as four FA Cup Fifth Round replays.
Champions League:
The two games in the Champions League will prove to be tight but thrilling encounters as CSKA Moscow host Sevilla and Inter Milan take on Chelsea.
Sevilla v. CSKA Moscow
With the Russian league not in action until next month, CSKA have not played a match since they sealed their progression to the last sixteen stage of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory away to Besiktas. How will they fare with not having played competitively in 2010? Sevilla are coming out of a major drop in form. They have won their last two matches, but they have lost eight of their last fifteen games in all competitions. Due to CSKA not having played for a while and Sevilla only getting back to speed, this game looks good to end level.
Tip: Back the draw. Check for the best price at William Hill
Chelsea v. Inter Milan
The night’s other game in Europe is the most anticipated game this week, as Jose Mourinho welcomes his former employers to the San Siro. Both sides are in excellent form and lead their respective leagues, with Inter five points clear of Roma and Chelsea four points ahead of Manchester United.
Neither side will need motivating for this match, but who will come out on top? Inter Milan are a solid side in Europe and they only lost one game in group stages at the Nou Camp. Chelsea were unbeaten as they topped Group D, however they did not have to face a side as good as Inter Milan in their six matches. I feel that this game will finish level with both teams scoring and Chelsea will take an away goal back to Stamford Bridge with them.
Tip: You can back the draw at a best price of 3.10 and both teams to score is best priced at 2.10 with William Hill.
FA Cup – Fifth Round Replays:
There are four games being played this evening, with Stoke City v Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur v Bolton Wanderers being the most high profile. Aston Villa v Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion v Reading are the other two games. Who will progress to the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup?
The Stoke v Man City game will be the third time that these two sides have met each other in under two weeks, with both previous games ending as 1-1 draws. Will we see a different result this time around? I think so. And I think that Stoke will win this game. They are unbeaten in their last six home games, and have only lost once in their last eleven games at the Britannia Stadium. Man City, on the other hand, were underwhelming against Liverpool at the weekend and are missing some of their best players. Stoke will win this game, but not by many goals, and will go on to face Chelsea in the Quarter Finals.
When Spurs faced Bolton at the Reebok Stadium in their Fifth Round match the game finished level at 1-1 and Bolton should have won that game. They will have wished that they had finished Spurs off at home by the end of this replay if the stats are anything to go by, as Bolton have not won away from home in their last eleven games. They have only managed three draws in that time, while Spurs have not lost a game at White Hart Lane in their last seven encounters and have only conceded two goals in those seven matches – both goals coming in the last round of the FA Cup in the game against Leeds United.
